The witness, CHANDLER HORNEY, was first duly sworn and testified as follows:
COURT CLERK: Have a seat on the witness stand. Please repeat your name, and spell your last name for the record.
CHANDLER HORNEY: My name is Chandler Horney, H-o-r-n-e-y.
DIRECT EXAMINATION
BY MS. GOUDE:
MS. GOUDE: And, Agent Horney, can you tell the jury who you work for?
CHANDLER HORNEY: I work for the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
MS. GOUDE: Okay, and what is your position there?
CHANDLER HORNEY: I'm a special agent with the Vice Services Unit.
MS. GOUDE: And were you involved in the murder investigation of Paul and Maggie Murdaugh?
CHANDLER HORNEY: I was.
MS. GOUDE: Did you collect some buccal swabs in this case?
CHANDLER HORNEY: I did.
MS. GOUDE: I'm going to hand you State's Exhibit 340. If you will, tell us what those are.
CHANDLER HORNEY: These are the collected buccal swabs from Morgan Doughty and Miley Altman.
MS. GOUDE: Okay, and how were those collected?
CHANDLER HORNEY: They were actually collected by a coworker, Special Agent Anthony Sampson, in my presence. He took the swabs of the inside of both of these individual's cheeks.
MS. GOUDE: And then when he took the swabs, he placed them in --
CHANDLER HORNEY: This envelope.
MS. GOUDE: And they were placed in bags that were sealed not to be tampered with?
CHANDLER HORNEY: Yes, ma'am.
MS. GOUDE: Your Honor, at this time the State would move State's Exhibit 340 into evidence.
MR. HARPOOTLIAN: No objection.
JUDGE NEWMAN: It's admitted.
(BUCCAL SWAB MARKED AS STATE'S EXHIBIT NUMBER 340 WAS RECEIVED INTO EVIDENCE.)
MS. GOUDE: We have no further questions for this agent.
JUDGE NEWMAN: By the defense?
MR. HARPOOTLIAN: I'm sorry, Your Honor?
JUDGE NEWMAN: Any questions?
MR. HARPOOTLIAN: No, sir. Thank you.
JUDGE NEWMAN: You may step down.
CHANDLER HORNEY: Thank you.
