William McElveen testified for the State on Day 11 about his close friendship with Paul Murdaugh and his familiarity with Moselle from approximately 30 or 40 visits. His testimony addressed Paul's phone habits, routines at the property, firearm storage, observed family relationships, and events after the deaths.
On direct examination, McElveen described Paul as a frequent caller, texter, and Snapchat user and said they sometimes shared their locations through Find My Friends. He could not recall seeing firearms left at the sheds and said leaving them there was not common. He also recounted last seeing Paul around June 5 and visiting Moselle on June 8 after learning of the deaths, while qualifying details he could not remember with certainty.
On cross-examination, McElveen described Alex and Paul's relationship as very good and close and said he had not observed anything negative between Alex and Maggie. He recalled Alex appearing sad and crying after the deaths and agreed that he generally put firearms away after hunting with Paul. Questioning also tested the limits of his memory concerning dates, visits, attendees, and whether the dogs were present.
